Halfway to the LVSF Final
JUNCOS, Puerto Rico, April 8, 2026 – In the continuation of the
Semifinal A series of the Women’s Volleyball Superior League (LVSF),
the Cangrejeras de Santurce stole the second match by defeating the
Valencianas de Juncos at the Coliseo Rafael G. Amalbert, winning 3-1
(25-21, 25-13, 20-25, 25-22).
Santurce moved halfway toward victory in this best-of-seven series;
the first team to reach four wins will advance to the final series.
In
the fourth set, with Santurce leading the match two sets to one, the
Valencianas took the lead at the second technical timeout, 16-14,
capitalizing on a service error by Helena Grozer. They later
extended their advantage to 18-15 after an illegal net attack by the
Cangrejeras.
However, the lead did not last long. Santurce responded with a 4-0
run, including a powerful spike by Tamara Otene from zone four to
take the lead at 19-18.
There was another tie at 19, but Otene struck again with two
consecutive points, one attack from zone four and an ace, putting
the Cangrejeras ahead 21-19, a lead they would not relinquish.
Santurce reached set point at 24-22 with a block by Kara McGhee on
Haley Bush, who was attacking from the back row. The victory was
sealed on the next play after an offensive error by Kelly Sánchez of
Juncos.
The
Cangrejeras displayed a balanced offense with five players in double
figures, led by Tamara Otene with 18 points (16 attacks and 2 aces).
She was followed by Andrea Rangel with 14, Neira Ortiz and Kara
McGhee with 13 each, and Helena Grozer with 11.
For
Juncos, Haley Bush led the offense with 24 points, while Naya Gross
added 11.
Santurce dominated in attacks (59-46), blocks (10-7), and assists
(23-18). Juncos held the edge in digs (84-81) and receptions
(43-38). Both teams finished with three service aces.
The
series continues with the third match this Friday, April 10, at the
Coliseo Roberto Clemente starting at 8:12 p.m.
The
other semifinal, between the Criollas de Caguas and the Leonas de
Ponce, will begin the same Friday at the Coliseo Roger Mendoza Vidal
at 8:20 p.m. |
