Cangrejeras stay unbeaten; Atenienses
return
to winning ways
SAN
JUAN, Puerto Rico, February 22, 2026. – Closing out the sixth week
of the Women’s Superior Volleyball League (LVSF), the Cangrejeras de
Santurce and the Atenienses de Manatí came away victorious on
Sunday’s slate.
The
Cangrejeras (12-0) extended their perfect run by sweeping the Leonas
de Ponce in three sets, earning the three available points to raise
their total to 33 points. The match scores were 25-16, 25-20, 25-17.
With
a two-set advantage, Santurce maintained control in the third set,
leading at technical timeouts 8-2 and 16-10. The Cangrejeras held a
six-point cushion (18-12) following a block on Nia Parker Robinson
and a successful outside attack from Helena Grozer.
Santurce put the set in “cruise control” at 22-15 with Tamara Otene
attacking effectively from the outside and closed out the match
25-17 on Grozer’s 13th kill of the contest.
Santurce dominated the team statistics: 51-39 in attacks, 14-3 in
blocks, 2-0 in aces, 47-42 in digs, and 18-8 in assists. Ponce
outperformed the Cangrejeras in receptions, 34-26.
Offensively, the league leaders were paced by Kara McGhee with 18
points, while Tamara Otene and Helena Grozer each added 15 points.
For
Ponce (5-9, 15 points), which failed to earn points, Jordan Wilson
led with 20 points, all on kills.
Atenienses snap losing streak
In
the other match of the night, the Atenienses de Manatí halted a
two-match losing streak by sweeping the Pinkin de Corozal at Juan
Aubín Cruz Coliseum.
The
scores were 25-23, 25-23, 25-23. With the victory, Manatí collected
the three available points, improved to 5-9 with 17 points, and
moved up to fourth place in the standings.
Corozal, which did not earn points, remains in third place with a
7-7 record and 21 total points.

seven action in the LVSF begins Wednesday with two matches:
The
Criollas de Caguas (7-7, 23 points), currently second in the
standings, visit the Leonas de Ponce at Salvador Dijols Court at
8:00 p.m.
The
Pinkin de Corozal will once again visit the Atenienses de Manatí at
Juan Aubín Cruz Coliseum at 8:30 p.m. |
