Cardenas takes Cuba to victory over Dominicans
LIMA, Peru, May 5, 2019 - Cuba beat the Dominican Republic in
straight sets (25-19, 25-18, 25-23) in the second match of Pool
A in the 4th edition of the U21 Men's Volleyball Pan American
Cup.
Julio César Cardenas scored 18 points for his team's triumph,
including 12 attacks, 2 blocks and 4 on services. For the
Dominican Republic Bayron Valdez highlighted with 15 units.
Cuba was very aggressive with the serve getting an advantage of
10-3 and also had he dominance in attacks (39-29) and blocking
(7-3). The winners committed 25 unforced errors, while the
losers gave 19 points for errors.
Julio César Cardenas, Cuba's top scorer: We are very happy for
the victory against a rival who knows how to give the fight as
Dominican Republic. Although we are already classified to the
World by ranking, we know that we have to take advantage of each
match to the maximum, because each opponent will allow us to
grow and improve our game for the great challenge that comes to
us.
Bayron Valdez, top scorer and captain of the Dominican Republic:
I am satisfied with the performance of my team, we have many new
players and despite that we could complicate at times an
opponent as strong as Cuba. Tomorrow will be a new rival, we are
still focused on our goal of winning the ticket and we will go
all out for the victory.
Cuba will play its second match of the Cup on Monday, May 6 at
4:00 pm against Puerto Rico. On the other hand, Dominican
Republic will face the United States at 6:00 p.m. |
