Complete the Sweep and Advance to Their
Third
Straight LVSM Final
LARES, Puerto Rico, January 3, 2026. – The two-time champions
Caribes de San Sebastián secured their spot in the finals of the
Men’s Superior Volleyball League (LVSM) by defeating the Patriotas
de Lares for the fourth consecutive time, thus completing the sweep.
The
Caribes earned a 3-1 victory on Saturday night (25-15, 21-25, 25-22,
25-22).
With
the win, the Caribes reach their third consecutive final and now
await the winner of the series between the Cafeteros de Yauco and
the Plataneros de Corozal, which Yauco currently leads 2-1.
Semifinal B will continue Sunday at the Carmen Z. Figueroa court in
Corozal, starting at 7:00 p.m.
In
the third set, with the match tied at one set apiece, the Patriotas
made a push but were unable to close it out. The Caribes held firm
and took a 22-20 lead thanks to an effective attack by Ezequiel Cruz
from zone two.
Lares responded with two consecutive points by Jair Santiago—one on
an attack from zone two and the other on a service ace—to tie the
score at 22. However, three straight points by San Sebastián,
including a service error by Santiago and two service aces by Cruz,
gave them the set and a 2-1 advantage.
In
the fourth set, holding a 2-1 lead, the two-time champions pulled
away to a 16-10 advantage after Pelegrín Vargas made a strong play
on a ball following an overpass from libero José Pacheco, and they
never looked back.
The
Caribes reached set point at 24-21 after an attack by Jair Santiago
from zone two went into the net, and they closed the match 25-22
with a spike by Vargas from zone four.
San
Sebastián led in most statistical categories: 54-45 in attacks,
12-10 in blocks, 5-2 in service aces, 62-51 in digs, and 42-35 in
receptions. Lares was superior in assists, 19-17.
The
Caribes’ offense was led by Pelegrín Vargas and Ezequiel Cruz with
17 points each, along with 16 points from Corey Chavers. For Lares,
Jair Santiago recorded 18 points, while Nick West added 10. |
