Caribes Remain Unstoppable and Plataneros
Soar Higher Than the Changos in Five Sets
NARANJITO, Puerto Rico, November 21, 2025.- While at Carolina’s
Guillermo Angulo Coliseum the two-time champions Caribes de San
Sebastián earned their tenth win of the season against just one loss
by defeating the Gigantes de Carolina in four sets, over at the
legendary Gelito Ortega court the Plataneros de Corozal rallied in
five sets to snatch the victory from the Changos de Naranjito on
Friday night in the Men’s Superior Volleyball League.
San
Sebastián, led by double-digit scoring from Pelegrín Vargas, Corey
Chavers, and Mark Frazier with 16, 14 and 10 points respectively,
prevailed with set scores of 25-21, 28-26, 22-25 and 25-22.
For
the Gigantes de Carolina, who failed to earn any points in the
match, Geraldo Rivera, Abraham Tamayo and Gabriel Rosado stood out
with 14, 11 and 10 points respectively. Following the loss, Carolina
dropped to fifth place with a 4-7 record and 13 points. San
Sebastián continues to lead the pack with a 10-1 record and 27
points.
Plataneros Win in Five Over the Changos
The
Plataneros, powered by double-digit scoring from Jalen Penrose and
Spencer Olivier, forced a fifth set to secure two of the three
points available in the match, prevailing in extra points at the
Gelito Ortega.
In
the fourth set, holding a 2-1 lead in the match, the Changos de
Naranjito failed to preserve their 22-20 advantage after a service
error by Luzgardo Liciaga, falling in extra points.
Corozal responded with two straight points, a service ace from Jalen
Penrose and a block by Guillermo Moya, to force the fifth set with a
27-25 score.
The
fifth set was another heart-stopper. The Changos went on an 8-3 run
to take a 9-8 lead, capitalizing on attacking errors from Penrose
and Olivier.
However, the duel remained tied from point 9 all the way to 19. In
the end, Corozal sealed the victory with a Penrose attack from zone
two and a winning block by Olivier.
Set
scores were 25-19, 25-27, 21-25, 27-25 and 21-19.
The
winning offense was fueled by Jalen Penrose, who tallied 39 points
(34 attacks, 2 blocks, and 3 aces), followed by Spencer Olivier with
28 points. Penrose scored 19 of those points across sets four and
five. For Naranjito, Clarke Godbold led with 31 points, followed by
Jackson Rivera with 12 and Cole Gillis with 11.
With
this result, the Plataneros earned two points to remain in second
place with an 8-3 record and 23 points.
Naranjito, meanwhile, added one point and now sits in seventh place
with a 2-9 record and 9 points. |
