Caribes and Gigantes prevail in marathon LVSM battles
LARES, Puerto Rico, November 26, 2025. – Wednesday night’s action in
the Men’s Superior Volleyball League (LVSM) featured two matches
that went the full distance, with the Caribes de San Sebastián and
the Gigantes de Adjuntas coming out on top against their respective
opponents.
At
the Félix Méndez Acevedo court, Caribes and Patriotas delivered a
heart-stopping showdown before a delirious crowd of over 3,000 fans.
The two-time defending champions Caribes de San Sebastián clinched a
3-2 victory (25-21, 38-40, 19-25, 25-23, 24-22), though they split
points with Lares.
With
the match tied at two sets apiece and the home team on the brink of
victory after taking a 14-11 lead on a right-side attack by Jair
Santiago, the Caribes responded with three straight points—including
a left-side kill by veteran Ezequiel Cruz—to tie the set at 14.
The
duel remained tight until point 22, when back-to-back attacks—one
from Pedro Nieves through the middle and another from Mark Frazier
from the right side—sealed San Sebastián’s win at 24-22.
The
double-digit offense was led by Mark Frazier (30), Pelegrín Vargas
Jr. (22), Antonio Feliciano (11), and Pedro Nieves (10).
With
the victory, the Caribes added 2 points and strengthened their hold
on first place with a 12-1 record and 32 points. Despite the loss,
Lares earned a point and now sits at 8-5 with 24 points, tying
Cafeteros de Yauco for third place.
Jair
Santiago was the offensive spark for the Patriotas with 44 points
(41 kills, 2 blocks, and 1 ace).
In
the other match, held at the Rafael Llull court in Adjuntas, the
Gigantes rallied to defeat the Mets de Guaynabo 3-2 (15-25, 23-25,
25-23, 25-16, 15-11).
With
the two points earned, Adjuntas now ties the Gigantes de Carolina
for fifth place with a 4-9 record and 13 points.
The
Mets, meanwhile, added a point in the loss and now share seventh
place with the Changos de Naranjito at 2-11 and 9 points. William
Rivera was Adjuntas’ top scorer with 23 points, while Hunter Oshman
led the Mets with 19. |
