Caribes, Mets, and Gigantes de Carolina Finish the Regular Season on a
High Note in the LVSM
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, October 20, 2024.-
In an exciting Sunday action of the Superior Men’s Voleibol League
(LVSM) of Puerto Rico, the Caribes de San Sebastián, Mets de Guaynabo,
and Gigantes de Carolina wrapped up the regular season with convincing
victories in their respective matchups, setting high expectations for
the postseason series.
At the Raúl “Pipote” Oliveras court in Yauco, the national champions
Caribes de San Sebastián defeated the Cafeteros in four sets 25-19,
25-21, 18-25, and 25-15.
The combined offense of Pelegrín Vargas, Jalen Penrose, Pablo Guzmán,
and Pedro Nieves with 19, 18, 12, and 10 points respectively, was more
than enough to secure their 17th win of the season, finishing with an
impressive 17-3 record and 51 points, solidifying their lead in the
island region.
For the Cafeteros, who ended the regular season with a 12-8 record and
34 points, Mark Frazer and Jessie Colón stood out with 12 and 10 points
respectively.
San Sebastián outperformed Yauco in all facets of the game: 55 to 35 in
attacks, 8 to 7 in blocks, 6 to 4 in aces, 41 to 33 in digs, and 27 to
16 in assists.

Mets Win in Three Over Changos
The Mets de Guaynabo closed the regular season of the LVSM with a
straight-set victory over the Changos de Naranjito. The set scores were
25-22, 31-29, and 25-23.
Jorge Mencía led the Mets' offense with 18 points, followed by Gregory
Torres with 14. For the Changos, Adrián Iglesias contributed 12 points,
and Johansen Negrón added 8.
The match took place at the legendary Gelito Ortega court in Naranjito,
where Guaynabo outperformed Naranjito in attacks (43 to 34), digs (27 to
20), and assists (28 to 16).
The Mets finished in first place in the metro section with a 15-5 record
and 45 points, while the Changos ended in second place with a 12-8
record and 37 points.
Gigantes Get Revenge on Plataneros
At the Guillermo Angulo Coliseum, the Gigantes de Carolina defeated the
Plataneros de Corozal in five sets, avenging their loss from Saturday.
The set scores were: 17-25, 19-25, 28-26, 25-23, and 15-9. Pedro
Pastrana led the Gigantes' victory with 23 points, while Luis Pabón
contributed 17. For the Plataneros, Joseph Cuevas stood out with 13
points.
Thus, the Gigantes de Carolina concluded the regular season with an 8-12
record and 25 points in fourth place in the metro section, while the
Plataneros de Corozal occupy third place with an 11-9 record and 31
points.
Both teams finished with 55 attacks each; Corozal outperformed Carolina
in blocks (16 to 9) and aces (6 to 4), while Carolina was better in digs
(69 to 58). In passing, Corozal was superior (63 to 56), and they also
led in assists (29 to 14).
Expectations are high for the LVSM quarterfinals, where the top teams
will battle to continue their way to the championship. |
