Caribes, Mets, and Gigantes de Carolina Open
Second
Week of LVSM with Victories
San
Sebastián, Puerto Rico – October 28, 2025. – The second week of the
Men’s Superior Volleyball League (LVSM) began with wins for the
two-time defending champions Caribes de San Sebastián, the Mets de
Guaynabo, and the Gigantes de Carolina.
At
the Luis Aymat Cardona Coliseum in San Sebastián, the Caribes earned
all three points available by defeating the Gigantes de Adjuntas in
four sets, with scores of 25-22, 25-17, 20-25, and 25-17.
With
a 2-1 set lead, the Caribes opened the fourth with a commanding 6-0
run that included a hitting error by Roberto Pérez, a block against
Pérez, an attack out of bounds by William Rivera from zone two, and
a successful spike by Pelegrín Vargas from zone four.
That
streak allowed San Sebastián to maintain control throughout the set
and secure all three points from the match. The Caribes reached set
point with a comfortable 24-14 lead after a strong attack by Pedro
Rosario from zone two. They sealed the set and the victory 25-17
thanks to a service error from the visitors.
San
Sebastián now sits atop the standings with a 3-0 record and 9
points, while Adjuntas remains in eighth and last place with 0-3 and
1 point.
The
Caribes outperformed Adjuntas in every statistical category: 51-32
in attacks, 11-8 in blocks, 5-4 in aces, 41-33 in digs, 32-30 in
receptions, and 12-6 in assists.
Pelegrín Vargas Jr., named Most Valuable Player of the tournament’s
first week, tallied 22 points tonight (19 attacks and 3 aces). For
Adjuntas, Mark Olsen led with 13 points, followed by William Rivera
with 12.
METS
EARN THEIR FIRST WIN
At
the Mario “Quijote” Morales Coliseum in Guaynabo, the Mets earned
their first victory of the season after three outings, defeating the
Naranjito Changos in four sets.
Set scores were 25-18, 30-28, 23-25, and 28-26.
Setter Víctor Vázquez efficiently distributed the offense, helping
four players reach double digits in scoring.
The
main spark was Gregory Torres, who led all scorers with 22 points
(19 attacks, 1 block, and 2 aces). He was followed by Josué Rivera
with 18, Inovel Romero with 17, Danny Martínez with 10, and Antonio
Elías with 9 points.
For
the Changos, reinforcements Clarke Godbold and Colton Cowell
contributed 21 and 17 points respectively, while Luis Candelario
added 11.
With
the victory, the Mets move up to fourth place in the standings with
a 1-2 record and 4 points, while Naranjito remains with the same
record.
CAROLINA GIANTS PREVAIL OVER PLATANEROS
At
the Guillermo Angulo Coliseum, the Gigantes de Carolina defeated the
Plataneros de Corozal in a thrilling five-set match.
Set
scores in favor of Carolina were 20-25, 25-21, 25-22, 18-25, and
15-13.
The
Gigantes earned 2 points and improved their record to 2-1 with a
total of 5 points, while the Plataneros collected 1 point in the
loss, falling to 1-2 with 3 points.
Félix Chapman led Carolina’s offense with 25 points, followed by
Geraldo Antonio Rivera with 23 and Cameron Milligan with 12.
For Corozal, Spencer Olivier scored 25 points, Joseph Oquendo 12,
Eliam Rivera 11, and Julio Mercedes 10. |
