Carico looks to continue successful streak in NORCECA
CHULA VISTA, California, October 2, 2013 - USA Volleyball will
welcome beach volleyball teams from 13 different countries when
it hosts the 2013 NORCECA Beach Circuit event on Oct. 4-6 at the
U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista.
Sixteen men’s teams and 16 women’s from countries in North
American, Central American and the Caribbean are registered to
compete.
The United States is sending the women’s teams of Lane Carico
and Heather Hughes along with Sarah Day and Kaitlin Nielsen. It
is sending the men’s teams of Nick Lucena and Theo Brunner along
with Tri Bourne and John Hyden.
Carico joined Sara Hughes to claim the gold medal at the
previous NORCECA event held in Boqueron, Puerto Rico two weeks
ago. Carico also had won the bronze medal one week earlier
playing alongside with Heather Hughes in Mazatlan, Mexico.
Heather Hughes and Summer Ross finished third at the 2013
NORCECA Circuit event in Toluca, Mexico while Heather pocketed
the 2012 Chula Vista tournament with then-partner Emily Day.
Bourne finished second at the 2013 Chula Vista tournament with
Will Montgomery.
It is the third timed in the past four years that USA Volleyball
has hosted the event, which has attracted more teams each
season.
The competition will begin with pool play at 9 a.m. on October
4. The top two teams from each pool advance to the single
