Carlos López from Guatemala MVP of AFECAVOL Men’s Central American
Championship
BELIZE CITY, Belize, August 12, 2023 - With an outstanding performance,
outside hitter Carlos López from the Guatemala was named the Most
Valuable Player (MVP) of the 22nd edition of the AFECAVOL Men's Central
American Volleyball Championship on Saturday, August 12.
Carlos López, alongside his teammates, celebrated Guatemala's fourth
consecutive title. El Salvador won the silver medal, and Belize secured
the bronze medal.
For the first time in the history of the Championship, the Best Scorer
award was given to two players, Rodrigo Chávez from El Salvador and Andy
Blando from Guatemala, both scoring a total of 120 points each.
Guatemala dominated the individual awards, taking four of them spread
across two players. In addition to being the Most Valuable Player,
Carlos López earned the First Best Spiker award. His teammate Andy
Blanco stood out with the Best Service award and one of the Best Scorers
awards.
Belize received three individual awards, with Ernest Broaster as the
Second Best Spiker, Karym Coleman as the Best Opposite, and Raheem
Flowers as the Best Receiver.
Panama also secured three individual awards. Miguel Medina was
recognized as the Best Libero and Best Defense, while his teammate
Astergio Díaz was awarded as the Best Setter.
Nicaragua's Emilio Andrews earned the award for the Best First Blocker,
and Manuel Platero from El Salvador received the award for the Second
Best Blocker of the championship.
