Castro Verdugo elected to Mexican Olympic Committee
MEXICO CITY, Mexico, October 28, 2016 - NORCECA First Executive
vice president and North Central Zone president, Saul Castro
Verdugo was elected as member of the Mexican Olympic Committee´s
Executive Committee after the Election Assembly held on Thursday
at the Olympic Sports Center headquarters in Mexico City.
Castro Verdugo, who is also General Director of the Baja
California Sports and Physical Culture Institute since 2001 and
FIVB Executive vice president, became a permanent member of the
Mexican Olympic Committee in 2010.
Part of the efforts conducted by Castro, includes the
certification of the Baja California High Performance Center in
Tijuana as an Olympic Center and alternate site for preparation
of national teams for competitions such as the Central, American
and Caribbean Games, The Pan American Games and the Olympics.
Teams from different countries have also selected the Center as
site for their training camps in preparation for international
volleyball competitions.
This Center also serves as a certified regional development
center by the Norceca Volleyball Confederation and the
International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).
During the Assembly, Carlos Padilla Becerra, was re-elected as
president of the Committee for the 2016-2020 period, while
Jimena Saldaña was elected as first vice president.
The President of the Mexican Football Federation, Decio de Maria
was elected as second vice president and Mario Garcia (President
of the Mexican Handball Federation and Chief of Mission in Rio
2016) as Secretary General.
Pedro Cuervo, who is the current president of the Mexican Rowing
Federation, was named as Pro-Secretary, while Pablo Suing who
has served as president of the Mexican Golf Federation, will be
the Treasurer.
Carmen García, Juan Manzo and Francisco Echeguren will serve as
members along with Castro Verdugo, as well as the London 2012
Olympic Medal Winner, Laura Sanchez a former diver who was
elected as athletes representative.
This Executive Committee was elected for the new Olympic cycle
that began after the conclusion of Rio 2016. |
