Central Zone Youth Beach Tournament in Havana
HAVANA, Cuba, May 25, 2018 – The NORCECA Central Zone Beach
Volleyball Qualification Tournament granting one ticket per
gender to the Youth Olympic Games in Argentina will take place
in Havana on Saturday and Sunday.
A temporary scenario was set up on the sands of the elegant
Havana Club for the competition for players born between 2000
and 2003. Representatives from Canada, United States, Mexico,
Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and host Cuba will play in the
double gender event, said Ariel Sainz, president of the Cuban
Volleyball Federation.
The local girls are Thalia Enamorado (Ciego de Ávila) and Amanda
Armenteros (Havana) and the boys Jorge Alayo (Villa Clara) and
Miguel Ángel Ayón (Ciego de Ávila), coached by Clara Jiménez and
Alain Hernández, respectively.
The girls had the opportunity to compete at the Varadero stage
of the NORCECA Circuit where they finished eighth, alongside the
female Puerto Rican duo and the two couples from the Dominican
Republic.
With the arrival of the teams from the United States all the
players are already in the capital of Cuba and on Friday they
will go through the preliminary enquiry and the General
Technical Meeting chaired by the NORCECA Control Committee
nominated for this event.
“Everything is ready at both Havana Club and the Sport Village
in Barucano where the players will has all the necessary
conditions to enjoy a good event thanks to the experience
acquired by our team while working over eight previous Varadero
tournaments,” said Sainz.
The event will be telecasted by Tele Rebelde, the national sport
channel.
Puerto Rico arrived with the duos of María González-Allanis
Navas and William Rivera-Randall Santiago along with their coach
Alexis Feliciano.
Both couples will be seeking the representation at the Youth
Olympic Games where the boys finished fifth and the girls ninth
in the previous edition held in Nanjing. |
