Changos Rise Again at Home and Halt Their Losing Streak
NARANJITO, Puerto Rico, November 18, 2025. – Tuesday’s action in the
Men’s Superior Volleyball League (LVSM) featured the Changos de
Naranjito, Caribes de San Sebastián, and Cafeteros de Yauco, all of
whom emerged victorious in their respective matchups.
At
the legendary Gelito Ortega court, the Changos staged an epic
comeback after dropping the first two sets to the Mets de Guaynabo,
forcing a decisive fifth set, which they edged out 15-13 to snap a
seven-match losing streak.
With
the win, Naranjito earned two points, while the Mets took one. Both
teams now hold a 2-8 record and 8 points, tied for sixth place along
with the Gigantes de Adjuntas, who fell earlier tonight to the
Caribes.
In
the decisive set, the Changos leaned on the offense of Clarke
Godbold, who finished with 31 points (27 attacks, 1 block, and 3
aces). The set shifted in favor of the home team after a service
error by Matt West, putting the score at 12-9 — a lead Naranjito
never relinquished.
Match point arrived at 14-10 after a deflected attack from zone four
by Juan C. Ribas. Although Guaynabo responded with a 3-0 run,
Godbold sealed the victory with a powerful spike from zone two that
extinguished the Mets’ hopes.
In
addition to Clarke Godbold’s 31 points, Naranjito also saw strong
offensive performances from Cole Gillis with 18 points and Jackson
Rivera with 13.
For
Guaynabo, Inovel Romero led the way with 26 points.
The
set scores were 23-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-23, and 15-13.
In
other results, the Caribes de San Sebastián swept the Gigantes de
Adjuntas with scores of 25-23, 25-23, and 25-15 at the Rafael Llull
court. With this victory, the Caribes strengthen their position at
the top of the standings with a 9-1 record and 24 accumulated
points.
Adjuntas, meanwhile, drops to 2-8 and 8 points, tying for sixth
place with the Mets and Changos. For the Caribes, Pelegrín Vargas
stood out with 17 points and Johan León added 11. In a losing
effort, William Rivera led the Gigantes with 8 points.
Meanwhile, at the Raúl “Pipote” Oliveras Coliseum in Yauco, the
Cafeteros swept the Patriotas de Lares with scores of 25-22, 25-22,
and 25-16.
With
this result, Yauco picked up three points to tie the Plataneros de
Corozal for third place, both holding a 7-3 record and 18 points.
Lares earned no points and, despite maintaining a 7-3 record,
remains in second place with 20 points.
For
the Cafeteros, Brandon Rattray shined with 12 points, followed by
Iván Fernández and Juan Felipe Castañeda with 11 points apiece. For
Lares, Jair Santiago and Garrett Muagututia contributed 10 points
each. |
