Changos force the decider with dominant 3-0 win

over Plataneros in LVSM quarterfinals

NARANJITO, Puerto Rico, December 21, 2025. – The Changos de Naranjito forced a sudden-death match in the quarterfinals of the Liga de Voleibol Superior Masculina (LVSM) by defeating the Plataneros de Corozal 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-23) on Sunday night.

With the emphatic 3-0 victory, Naranjito evened the series and returned the favor to the Plataneros, who had come out on top in the opening match with a four-set win.

Naranjito maintained control throughout the match with solid play in all aspects of the game.

In this best-of-three (2-of-3) series, the decisive match will be played this Tuesday, December 23, on the home court of the Plataneros de Corozal, the Carmen Z. Figueroa court.

Changos setter Arturo Iglesias highlighted the importance of consistency and execution in the win that tied the series. “Happy with the victory,” he said at the outset, noting that the team was able to carry over the adjustments made after the first match. “We had a good moment in the last match, and the difference today was consistency. The adjustments we made in practice, in scouting, and overall, were to play better,” he emphasized.

Iglesias acknowledged that the season has been a challenge, marked by multiple five-set matches and difficult moments in terms of health, but stressed that the team is now focused on the decisive stage. “It was a long season… but now is when the money games are played. Now we must leave everything on the court, and I’m very proud of my team,” he stated.

“Today we served very, very well, and that helped us a lot with our blocking. That was a big difference because they have very good attackers… and we were able to control them quite well,” the setter explained.

Looking ahead to the third and decisive match, to be played at the Carmen Zoraida Figueroa court in front of a sellout crowd, Iglesias was clear about the team’s mindset: “Go to win. Every day we wake up with a winning mentality and leave everything on the court,” he concluded.

The Changos’ offense was led by Clarke Godbold with 19 points and Cole Gillis with 13. For Corozal, Jalen Penrose and Spencer Olivier contributed 19 and 15 points, respectively.

The Series B quarterfinal match between the Patriotas de Lares (1-0) and the Gigantes de Carolina (0-1) continues this Monday at the Guillermo Angulo Coliseum in Carolina, starting at 8:00 p.m.
