Chiclayo presents the XVIII Women's Pan American Cup
CHICLAYO, Peru, July 4, 2019 - The "Ciudad de la Amistad" as
Chiclayo is known once again is the scene of one of the most
"emblematic" tournaments of the NORCECA Confederation: the
Women's Pan American Cup.
After being the site in 2013, 2015 and 2017, Chiclayo will be
the scene of the Group B matches, which makes up the current
champion, the United States (six times champion), Mexico,
Colombia, Puerto Rico and Trinidad and Tobago. In the pool A are
Cuba, Dominican Republic, Canada, Argentina, Peru and Guatemala
that will be played in Trujillo.
At a press conference held at the Casa Andina hotel,
headquarters of the teams, Carlos Laos, member of the Peruvian
Volleyball Federation (FPV), the
Director of Competitions, the Cuban Ariel Sainz, and the vice
president of Norceca, Carlos Beltran of Puerto Rico made the
official launch before the media, explaining the level of the
tournament and the competition system.
"They will enjoy a good volleyball, we will have the best
players and the girls, our future, are the ones that will
imitate those stars that they see playing," said Laos.
Meanwhile, Beltran said that "first we have to thank the people
of Chiclayo for their kindness, on our part and NORCECA for
welcoming all the teams and staff; It is also good to point out
that this Cup is a preview of the Lima Games, which will begin
in three weeks. We have 4 teams in Trujillo and 3 in Chiclayo
that will be in the Pan American Games, missing only Brazil."
"This will be a great volleyball, so we expect the support of
all the people of this city, and the media to make it reach the
relevance of the event, which in any city of the world would
like to organize it," added Beltran.
In addition, the Puerto Rican official said that "the whole
world will be able to see the level of this tournament as all
the matches will be broadcast through the NORCECATV system".
Ariel Sainz, director of the competition, commented that "18
years ago this Pan American Cup began in Mexico and also Peru
will host the XVIII Pan American Games. This Cup awards points
for the Central American and Caribbean Games of Panama 2022; it
will also serve the preparation teams for the Lima Games and for
the Olympic Qualification Tournament that will be held soon."
The games will start on Saturday, June 6 with two games a day,
at 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., at the Cerrado Coliseum in Chiclayo. |
