SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 22, 2015 – Chile evened
their record at 2-2 in the U20 Women’s Pan American Cup after a
straight-set (25-10, 25-15, 25-8) victory over Nicaragua who
dropped their fourth match in a row on Wednesday.
The Chileans outscored the Nicaraguans in attacks (32-17) and
serving aces (8-2) while each teams had three blocks.
Catalina Melo was the top scorers for the winners with 13
points, followed by Amalia Carvajal and Javiera Contreras with 9
and 8, respectively. Maria Cruz had 11 points for Nicaragua and
Florelisa Smith finished with 9 in the loss.
Catalina Melo, captain of Chile, said: “It was a good game for
us and Nicaragua played good field defense. We used a different
pattern today in our game.”
Eugenia Sequeira, captain of Nicaragua, said: “Our team showed
more desire and we were able to keep the rhythm for the first
two sets. Today we receiver better and could attack better
also.”
Hugo Jauregui, coach of Chile: “We were aided by their technical
errors, especially at the net. They played good defense touching
many balls and we had to vary our attacking plan.”
Claudia Noguera, coach of Nicaragua: “Today we saw a different
Nicaragua, with more focus and enthusiasm. They played better
and I hope this helps us tomorrow for the match against Costa
Rica.” |
