Chile defeated Peru in the Classic of the Pacific
LIMA, Peru, May 6, 2019 - Chile beat Peru in the 'Pacific
Classic' 3-0 (25-18, 28-26, 25-17) and got its first triumph
in the Pool B of the World Championship Qualification U21 in
Bahrain.
Chilean defensive work was key for the victory that places them
for now in the second placx of Group B. Chile captain Vicente
Ibarra, closed the game as the highest scorer with 16 points,
followed by Manfred Borgstedt with 10 points.
Peru had Maikel Jaramillo as the leader of the individual score
with 13 points, while Ángel Cerpa and Sebastián Calvera equaled
11 points.
Although the local team battled each ball, Chile managed to
maintain the concentration in their game system and had
advantage in attack (42-35), blocking (11-6) and service (4-1).
The winners registered 19 unforced errors, compared to 21 of the
rival.
Vicente Ibarra, Chilean captain: Peru is a rival who fights each
ball, but we followed our strategy and although we made some
mistakes due to anxiety we got the result in our favor.
Maikel Jaramillo, captain of Peru: Despite the result I
appreciate the effort of my teammates, because they did not stop
fighting. We have a difficult game against Canada, but we know
that there are no impossibles and we will go out with a lot of
energy and concentration to face the rival.
Chile will play the first match on Tuesday May 7 at 2:00 pm,
when they face the Colombian national team. Instead, Peru will
close the day playing against Canada in the last game of the
Pool Play scheduled at 20:00. |
