Chile is among the top four teams after beating Mexico
GUANAJUATO, Mexico, September 8, 2016 - Chile and Mexico played
the second quarterfinal match. The victory was for the Chilean
team by scores of 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-18).
The host team tried to get closer against a South American squad
that had Dusan Bonacic as best weapon with double digits.
Bonacic totalized 20 points for Chile, followed by Simon Guerra,
who registered 12 units.
For Mexico, Bruno Cruz closed with 10 points, while Jose Rubio
and Ariel Acosta finished with 8 apiece. Chile worked hard with
the blocking game overcoming Mexico with a 14-5 balance. The
team coached by Daniel Nejamkin capitalized 24 points by
opponent’s error.
“We are glad for this result. Today we played a very good match
and we are glad for South America. From a total of four
semifinalists, three are from South America. We played with
order, maybe we have some difficulties, but went out with order
with two great players like Bonacic and Simon Guerra, the best
of our team,” stated Daniel Nejamkin, coach of Chile.
“Our final is on Saturday. We could not get into the finals.
Chile played very well. They deserved to be there. We will play
on Saturday against Dominican Republic for the fifth place and
the qualification to the world championship so we will go for
that ticket,” said Luis León, coach of Mexico.
“First of all, I want to congratulate Mexico. They played a very
tough match. The score was 3-0, but it was really difficult to
play against them. They had a fast ball and make points we could
not block at the beginning. There are three South American teams
among the top four. We are happy for the high level in our
region,” said Dusan Bonacic, captain of Chile.
“I’m sure that today was question of attitude, that’s all. Our
priority is to go for the ticket to the World Championship of
Egypt. We will fight hard for that on Saturday against Dominican
Republic and we will give our best. We will play a hundred
percent,” Ariel Acosta, player of Mexico, remarked.
