Chile opens with a solid victory over Saint Lucia

GUANAJUATO, Mexico, September 6, 2016 -The second day of actions at the III Men’s U23 Pan American Cup finished with a solid three sets victory by Chile over Saint Lucia by scores of 25-9, 25-6 and 25-8.

Chilean captain Dusan Bonacic scored 12 points, while Gabriel Araya tallied 10 for the South American Squad. Meanwhile Darnell Eudoxie scored 4 for the Saint Lucians. Chile dominated 9-3 in blocks and 5-1 in services.

“We are very glad, with all the batteries loaded to begin with the new challenge of qualifying to the world championship. Congratulations to my team, my teammates and the technical staff. We played a perfect match and now we have to think about our next match against Argentina to define our place in the pool,” said Bonacic.

For Daniel Nejamkin, coach of Chile, this was a good start. “A good start. A good result. This was important in order to define a place in the pool. This victory set us practically in second place or we can finish first, because every point also counts,” Nejamkin remarked.

Chile will match Argentina on Wednesday in a very intense South American battle to be played at the Colmena Auditorium in the Capitol City of Guanajuato.
