Chile reaches the quarterfinals
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, May 1, 2013. – Chile scored a 3-0
(25-18, 25-21, 25-19) victory over Colombia and reaches the
quarterfinals of the U-18 Girls Pan American Cup.
Chile concludes with a 2-1 win-loss mark in Pool B while
Colombia finishes 1-2 and will play for the 5-8 positions. The
enormous advantage in service points of Chile by 11-0 was
decisive for the win.
Catalina Melohad a math-high with 25 points for Chile, while
Amanda Caneo with 15 points was Colombia’s top scorer.
“We stayed focused all the time, even in critical moments; we
hope to end among the top four of the Cup” said Chilean Catalina
Melo.
Colombian Veronica Pasos admitted they lost because they
pressured themselves too much, “our lack of communication caused
to slow our rhythm”.
Hugo Jauregui, coach of Chile was satisfied with the victory “we
had to prevent Colombia from attacking so we concentrated in a
strong serve which allowed us to have more control; without
possibility to qualify to the World Championship now we’ll play
the best Cup possible.”
“We failed in our reception and had too many errors; Chile
showed they are better prepared than us and now we must organize
