China beats Dominican Republic in straight sets
SHENZHOU, China, July 3, 2014 – Hosts China outclassed Dominican
Republic 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-12) in the opening match of the
second segment of the China International Women’s Volleyball
Tournament in Shenzhou on Thursday.
On their way to the comfortable win the team coached by
legendary former national team player Lang Ping, held wide
margins in the blocking category (13-4) and in the service ace
department (7-2).
China’s Zen with 15 points, including four blocks and one ace,
was the lone player in the game who reached double figures in
the scoring charts. Xu contributed 9 points in the victory with
six blocks and three aces.
Gina Mambrú had six points as the best of the losers while
Yonkaira Peña and Marifranchi Rodríguez finished with five
points apiece.
It is the second consecutive loss of Dominican Republic to
China. Last week during the first part of the tournament in
Ningbo, the local team won 25-20, 25-16, 25-18 the match between
the two sides.
In the other match of Thursday, Belgium defeated Thailand in
straight sets 25-20, 25-20, 25-18. |
