China beats Dominican Republic

 

NINGBO, China, June 28, 2014 – Hosts China improved to a 2-0 win-loss record at the China Women’s International Volleyball Tournament after a straight-set (25-20, 25-16, 25-18) over Dominican Republic on Saturday.

 

The home side held advantages of 9-2 and 5-0 in the aces and blocking charts, respectively.

 

Hiu, Liu and Yang were the top offensive players of the winners with 14, 12 and 11 points, respectively. Liu topped the service-winners category with three aces.

 

Yonkaira Peña and Bethania De la Cruz led the Dominican side with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Gina Mambru chipped in with seven points.

 

In the other match of Saturday, Thailand edged Belgium in five sets (21-25, 25-20, 25-20, 21-25, 15-13). Thailand improved to 1-1 while Belgium dropped to a 0-2 mark.

 

Thipachot and Tapaphaipun led Thailand with 19 and 17 points, respectively. Belgium’s Van Hecke had a match-high 22 points.

 

The first segment of the tournament concludes on Sunday with China playing Thailand and Dominican Republic facing Belgium. Teams then move to Shenzhou for the second part of the tournament on July 3-5.
