NINGBO, China, June 12, 2016 - China claimed a triple crown at
the World Grand Prix first weekend. The team recorded only one
set loss after defeating USA 3-1 (25-20, 25-19, 15-25, 25-23).
Once again Ting Zhu led her team to win a full package of
points, scoring 17 points. USA's middle blocker Foluke
Akinradewo finished with one point less, scoring 16 points.
Changning Zhang and Xiangyu Gong each registered 15 points for
China while Kelly Murphy was the only other American with double
figures with 13 points.
Both teams have long history of encounters at the World Grand
Prix, with 34 after today's match. China has won 21, while USA
13 of their matches. Their last eight matches finished in favor
of the American team.
USA is one of the teams China has been playing against the most
in World Grand Prix with only Brazil being ahead with 35
matches. |
