Coaches Look Ahead to Competition in Quebec
CHATEAUGUAY, Canada – The coaches of the three teams
participating in the NORCECA Challenger towards the FIVB
Volleyball Nations League 2020 commented about their teams on
the eve of the start of the competition to be held from May 31
to June 2.
Head coach Jose Mieles (PUR) : “Our main goal is to qualify for
the next tournament; and to keep preparing for the rest of the
season because it’s going to be a hard year for our team. Last
year in Edmonton (for the same tournament) we had a very
exciting five-set game with Canada and won, and we’re hoping for
the same level of excitement and the same result!”
Head coach Claudio Torres Garcia (MEX): “This will be a good
test for the team, we have many players who are newly selected
to the National Team and I believe they will absorb the
experience. We will strive to win both matches.”
Head coach Tom Black (CAN): “We’re still learning a lot about
each other, but I definitely like the team we’re bringing out to
the floor – they’ve been working really hard this past month.
The girls are ready to compete. I think Canada’s going to see
an exciting style of play. We have two big goals – we have to
qualify for the Olympics and also for VNL, and this is one step
in the process. This tournament is a necessary important step. “
