Coaches are ready for the AFECAVOL U21 Men’s championship to
start
SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, September 29, 2019.-
The seven coaches of the national teams are ready for the
AFECAVOL U21 Men’s Central American Championship to start at
the FESAVOL Volleyball Gymnasium in El Salvador.
Coaches gave their first impressions about the round-robin
tournament agreeing that all teams show a similar game
level.
Albert Humes, Belize:
“It is well documented that at the U21 level, Belize has not
been that successful; I think we haven’t even won any match.
Our intentions are from winning the first game because we
have changed our method of training. We’ve been training
since March, which is much different from past years, so we
expect to do much better this time”.
Sergio Araya, Costa Rica:
“This tournament is a challenge for us, despite what you
might think, this team is completely renovated from the one
of the U19 category that was champion in Panama; from that
team we are bringing five players and we are betting on
seven new players that showed better level. The boy’s
performance during the game is uncertain but our goal is to
finish in first place”.
Alexander Polanco, El Salvador:
“This will be an exciting and competitive tournament, very
tight according to our observations; I think three countries
have the possibility to win the title. As hosts we believe
we can reach the podium and even win the gold medal against
Costa Rica in our last match”.
Reider Lucas, Guatemala:
“This is a young age-group category; the boys have little
competitive experience. 50% of the team is from a younger
category but are glad of their good preparation. We have
great expectations in this group for Guatemala’s volleyball
future. We want to battle one match at a time and have a
good outcome”.
Osiel Vázquez, Honduras:
“Our team has three months of preparation, me and professor
José Miguel Angel Paguada incorporated the last month.
According to the technical/tactical preparation we believe
we can finish in the final four of the tournament. We are
aware that the level is similar between all the teams”.
Jorge Mena, Nicaragua:
“We will fight with all we have; we will try to win a medal.
The teams have similar level and I consider that the first
two matches (Guatemala and Costa Rica) will be tough and we
must finish at least with one victory and not two losses”.
Javier Polo, Panama:
“My boys come from a good physical, technical and tactical
preparation. We hope for a good competition. We are focused
on team work and we know they will give their best effort to
put our country’s name on high. The tournament will be very
competitive, there are aggressive opponents and we are
looking for the best strategy to neutralize them”.
