Colombia Earns Second Victory at Santo Domingo 2026
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, August 3, 2026. – Colombia
claimed its second victory in Pool A of the women's volleyball
tournament at the 25th Central American and Caribbean Games
Santo Domingo 2026 with a straight-set win over Trinidad and
Tobago, 3-0 (25-19, 25-9, 25-20).
Colombia controlled the opening two sets behind strong serving
and blocking. The South Americans raced to a 6-0 lead in the
first set and remained in command to take it 25-19, then quickly
built a comfortable advantage in the second for a 25-9 victory.
Trinidad and Tobago responded with a much stronger performance
in the third set, keeping the score level at 13-13 and narrowing
the gap to 19-18. Colombia regained control in the closing
stages to seal the match by winning the set 25-20.
Colombia held a huge 31-10 advantage in attacks and an 8-2
margin in aces. Both teams recorded seven blocks, while Colombia
committed 19 unforced errors to Trinidad and Tobago's 29.
Outside hitter Ana Karina Olaya led Colombia with 10 points,
while opposite hitter Kiune Fletcher led all scorers with 11
points for Trinidad and Tobago. They were the only players to
reach double figures.
Ana Karina Olaya, Colombia's leading scorer said about the win:
"We're very happy to earn our second victory of the tournament.
We know every match is important, so we came out with great
intensity."
"In the third set Trinidad and Tobago raised its level and we
dropped our rhythm a little, but we regrouped and returned to
our game to secure the victory."
"We hope to approach our final pool match with the best
attitude, fight for every point and enjoy the game, because
that's what we love most."
Kiune Fletcher, Trinidad and Tobago's leading scorer: "We came
very close in the third set. We managed to put them under
pressure and take them out of their system a little, but we
couldn't maintain that level until the end."
"For the match against Venezuela, we want to reduce our unforced
errors and play to the best of our abilities."
On the final day of pool play, Colombia will face Mexico, while
Trinidad and Tobago will take on Venezuela.
