Colombia beat Argentina and will play its first semifinal
TRUJILLO, Peru, July 12, 2019 - Colombia beat Argentina with a
convincing 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-19) at the Gran Chimú Coliseum
in Trujillo, to qualify for the first time to a semifinal of the
Women's Pan American Senior Cup.
The offensive work of Colombia was led by the opposite Dayana
Segovia with 16 points, and the top attackers Margarita Martínez
with and Amanda Coneo who added 13 and 11 points respectively.
The Colombians got 3 aces and they beat the Argentines in attack
(41-34) and blocking (12-7). The winners scored through 19
unforced errors of the opponent, reducing their own to 10.
Captain of Colombia, María Alejandra Marín: We knew that the key
to winning was the union of the team, the rapport we now have in
Colombia; the technique and the tactics is in addition. We
studied very well to the contrary, and that is what made it
easier for us to be in a semifinal for the first time for
Colombia, we are very happy about that.
Captain of Argentina, Julieta Lazcano: It was a difficult
match, Colombia studied us very well and managed to deactivate
us all. They managed to control the whole match, they did an
excellent job, we have to go ahead and correct the mistakes of
today.
Colombia will fight to change the defeat they suffered to the
hands of the United States in the group phase, when it faces it
again this Saturday, July 13 at 18:00 in the first crossed
semifinal crossing. The second semifinal will be at 20:00
between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, who qualified
after beating Canada 3-1 in the quarterfinals. |
