MEXICO CITY, Mexico, May 24, 2016.-
Colombia once again defeated Honduras 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-21)
but this time in a placing match for positions 7-10 of the XI
Men’s Pan American Cup in the Olympic Gymnasium Juan de la
Barrera in Mexico City.
Colombia held advantage in spikes (42-37), in blocks (9-8) and
aces (3-2). Colombia scored on 21 errors of Honduras and
committed 18.
Opposite Ronald Jimenez of Colombia led all scorers with 21
points, 18 on kills, 1 block and 2 aces, the only player of his
team with double digits. With 12 points apiece, middle blocker
Ornello Watler and outside hitter Frank Alley led Honduras.
Colombia will play for seventh place of the tournament to either
Chile or Costa Rica. Honduras will face the loser for ninth
place.
“We were very irregular” said Colombia’s captain Andres Piza. “I
think that in these placing matches we play against ourselves
and you set your own pace. The opponent pushes but you aren’t
mentally into the match and that’s why the scores were too
close” he added.
Luis Salgado captain of Honduras indicated “Colombia had to use
all their players and that’s rewarding because they felt they
didn’t have enough resources. Comparing today’s match from
yesterday, we played as equals. The scores show that we battled
well, we played united as a team, motivated and we enjoyed
ourselves”. |
