Colombia dominates Guatemala
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 30, 2013. - Colombia had no
difficulties to dominate Guatemala 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 21-11) in
Group B at the U-18 Girls Pan American Cup on Tuesday night.
Colombia was superior with a huge advantage in all categories,
attacks by 34-11, in blocking with 11-4 and by 12-2 in service
points. Colombia is now with a 1-1 win-loss mark while Guatemala
remains winless.
With 13 points, Amanda Coneo was Colombia’s leading scorer,
followed by Veronica Pasos with 11 points. For Guatemala, Astrid
Chacon and Natalia Giron topped with 4 points each.
“We played with the same energy and enthusiasm as we did
yesterday and when Guatemala edged us we maintained calm” said
Veronica Pasos captain of Colombia.
“Our communication was broken as the match advanced, we
definitely need more experience” expressed EstefanieBethancourth
of Guatemala.
Oscar Guevara gave words of encouragement to Guatemalan coach
Julio Dominguez as he identifies with the difficulties evolving
in a more competitive team, “a recommend patience, we suffer the
same in South America with highly developed opponents” he said.
“I am glad that my team was able to put a side yesterday’s loss
in the possibility to qualify to a world championship” he added.
Julio Dominguez expressed “we must be realistic, today it was
evident we need to set logical objectives, first to be champions
in Central American and then have a better position in ranking
in NORCECA; this team has only seven international matches in
approximately two years”. |
