Colombia gets close but falls to Argentina in straight sets

 

CAÑETE, Peru, June 19, 2017- Argentina got their third victory in Pool A of the XVI Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup by Movistar by defeating Colombia in a close match 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 26-24) at Lolo Fernandez Coliseum of Cañete.

 

Dayana Segovia, the Colombian wing-spiker was the top scorer of the match just ahead of Argentineans Lucia Fresco with 16, Yamila Nizetich with 14 and Emilce Sosa with 11.

 

Argentina committed 22 unforced errors while Colombia reduced theirs to 15. However, the team coached by Guillermo Orduna marked the difference with superiority in all fundaments: Attacks (44-36), blocking (8-6) and service winners (10-6).

 

Emilce Sosa, Captain of Argentina: “I am very happy with the victory since that is why we are here. Today we had a battle but Argentina reacted on time and we made up for the difference they built at the early part of each set.”

 

Dayana Segovia, Colombian top scorer: “We couldn’t keep the advantages and close the sets in the key moments but we are a young team growing up since the first match against Puerto Rico. I am confident that little by little we will be a solid group able to close with the score in our favor.”

 

Guillermo Orduna, Coach of Argentina: “I think we still need to learn how to work to maintain the level of performance but the important is the girls to know to escape from the bad moments and to close with the victory.”

 

Antonio Rizola, Coach of Colombia: “The close score tells us that every day we are growing a little. We still don’t know how to keep the concentration to close the sets but that’s normal among the young teams going through a process of changes. Today I am leaving happy with the growth of my team.”
