Colombia in the fifth female position of the BVB

LIMA, Peru, July 30, 2019 - Yury Ayala and Diana Ríos of Colombia took fifth place in women's beach volleyball of the XVIII Pan American Games in Lima 2019 by beating Chile (María Rivas / Pilar Mardones) 2-0 (21-12, 21-19).

Ayala/Ríos complicated their opponents with the serve, plus the good defense of Ayala, which allowed "kickback" and take an advantage impossible to overcome in the first set. In the second, equality remained until 19, when Colombia with two good services achieved the victory.

Patricia Caballero/Michelle Valiente, from Paraguay, beat Costa Rica 21-16, 22-20 with Valeria Valenciano/Marcela Araya, to keep the seventh place of the tournament.

Yuly Ayala, Colombia: “Everything that is happening to us is happiness, a fifth place is very good, the goal was another, but I think that continuing to win matches despite not being in the semifinals is very good because it helps us grow as a double. We left the flag of Colombia high.”

“I am a student, I work and I am a high performance athlete, my partner also works; We make many sacrifices to be here, so we are satisfied,” said Ayala.

Diana Ríos: “We are very happy, we would have liked more, like everyone else, we must be patient, we must continue sowing to harvest later. Tranquility and patience to define each point, we will have that over time”.
