Colombia subdues Costa Rica
PACHUCA, Mexico, June 13, 2014 - Colombia cruised past Costa
Rica in straight sets 25-16, 25-18, 25-16 earning their first
win in Pool B on Friday at Carlos Martinez Balmori Multisport
Hall.
The Colombian team hurt Costa Rica with well placed serves en
route to a 13-6 margin in the aces category and also led in the
blocking charts 7-3.
Ivonne Montano was the top offensive players of the winning side
with 16 points, including two blocks and three aces. Yeisy Soto
and Danna Escobar contributed 11 and 10 tallies.
Costa Rica’s Paola Ramirez finished with eight points while
Angela Willis had seven in the loss.
Colombia evened its record at 1-1 and Costa Rica is still
winless after two matches disputed.
Brazilian Mauro Marasciulo, Coach of Colombia: “Our purpose
today was to improve the blocking and the girls also served hard
and had strong attacks. Our team is young and in evolution but
needs more exposition. But it is not easy to leave the country
to play.”
The Captain María Alejandra Marín said “we are very glad and
motivated to play Puerto Rico tomorrow. We will go after the
victory to secure third place.”
Argentinean Horacio Bastit, Coach of Costa Rica lamented they
couldn’t fulfill their plan, “the other team was better and
dominated us in various aspects of efficiency.” |
