Colombia sweeps Trinidad & Tobago with tight blocking
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, July 8, 2016 – Colombia swept
Trinidad & Tobago in straight sets 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-17) in
a qualification match for positions at the XV Women’s Volleyball
Pan American Cup on Friday.
Dayana Segovia and Kenny Moreno registered 15 and 14 points,
respectively, as the best scorers for the winning side. Lorena
Zuleta and Margarita Martinez contributed 9 and 7 points in the
victory.
Channon Thompson of Trinidad & Tobago had a match-high 17
points, followed by Darlene Ramdin and Kystle Esdelle with 9 and
7, respectively.
Colombia enjoyed of a good defensive match at the net outscoring
their opponents 13-3 in blocks.
“The first set was close and Trinidad & Tobago was receiving
very well and we couldn’t stop Thompson,” said Eduardo
Guillaume, the coach of Colombia. “Then we were able to control
the game halfway after the second set.”
“We have some good athletes who are playing well despite not
practicing regularly for this tournament,” said Francisco Cruz
of Trinidad & Tobago. |
