Colombia wins fantastic battle to Puerto Rico to reach

BARRANQUILLA, Colombia, July 22, 2018 - Colombia battled
strongly for a fantastic win over Puerto Rico in straight sets
3-0 (25-20, 29-27, 25-21) for pool B top spot at the women’s
volleyball tournament of the 2018 Barranquilla XXIII Central
American Games.
Colombia advanced into semifinals with unbeaten 3-0 record;
Puerto Rico, second in pool B will face Venezuela in
quarterfinals.
Host Colombia dominated Puerto Rico with consistent blocking in
the first set. Colombia stopped Puerto Rico to score a set point
in the second set, recovering from a deficit 21-24, sealing in
dramatic fashion 29-27.
Colombia led in blocks 10-7 and in aces 4-1, while Puerto Rico
dominated in kills 42-39. Colombia committed fewer errors 18-25.
The home team distributed their offense between Dayana Segovia
with 15 points, on 11 kills and 4 blocks; Margarita Martinez
with 12 points and Amanda Caneo with 11 points. Puerto Rico also
had three players with double-figures, Daly Santana topped with
13 points, including 12 kills; Neira Ortiz contributed with 12
points and Pilar Victoria with 11 points. |
