Competition Remains Tight in Men's
Beach Volleyball at Santo Domingo 2026
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, July 28, 2026. – The battle
for first place in each pool intensified after four days of
competition in the men's beach volleyball tournament at the 25th
Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026. Four
pools remain led by unbeaten pairs, setting the stage for
decisive matches on Wednesday to determine the top finishers
heading into the quarterfinals.
In Pool A, the host duo of Hayerling De Jesús and Oscar Martínez
maintained their perfect record with a 2-0 (21-16, 21-10)
victory over Guatemala's José Izaguirre and Edgar Maldonado,
improving to 3-0 and joining Venezuela's Esyenser Delgado and
Jesús Villafańe atop the standings. The Dominican Republic and
Venezuela will meet on Wednesday to determine the pool winner.
In Pool B, Mexico's Carlos Ayala and Antonio Lares remained
unbeaten after defeating the U.S. Virgin Islands' Cole Sommer
and De-Andrae Taylor 2-0 (21-5, 21-11). Costa Rica's Julián
Araya and Stanley Grant also improved to 3-0 with a 2-0 (21-12,
21-15) victory over the Cayman Islands' Jesario Ebanks and Dylan
Lynee. Mexico and Costa Rica will face off on Wednesday with
first place in the pool at stake.
Pool C also features two unbeaten duos. Nicaragua's Jefferson
Cascante and Rubén Mora defeated Elkreen Morton and Zendai
Richards of St. Kitts and Nevis 2-0 (21-13, 21-15), while Puerto
Rico's William and Daniel Rivera advanced after Martinique's
Noah Choux and Elowan Choux retired from their match. Nicaragua
and Puerto Rico will meet on Wednesday to decide the top spot in
the pool.
In Pool D, El Salvador's cousins Rafael and Gabriel Vargas (Rafa/Gabo)
stayed undefeated with a 2-0 (21-18, 21-12) victory over
Trinidad and Tobago's Miguel Jahreef and Jerome Morrison, while
Cuba's Damián Gómez and Eblis Veranes cruised past the Bahamas'
Miguel Peńa and Raenor Sharpe 2-0 (21-6, 21-4). El Salvador and
Cuba will clash on Wednesday to determine the pool champion.
With quarterfinal positions already secured by several teams and
pool titles still up for grabs, Wednesday's final preliminary
round promises high-level matchups before the knockout stage
begins.
