Corozal Levels Semifinal Series B Against Yauco

COROZAL, Puerto Rico, December 29, 2025. – The battle for a spot in the final is more alive than ever. Semifinal Series B of the Men’s Volleygall Superior League (LVSM) is now tied at one win apiece after the Plataneros de Corozal successfully defended their home court at the Carmen Z. Figueroa gym, defeating the Cafeteros de Yauco 3-1 (26-24, 19-25, 25-22, 25-19).

The opening set was an emotional roller coaster. The Cafeteros reached set point first at 24-22 following an errant attack by Joseph Oquendo and a net violation by Oquendo himself on a blocking attempt.

However, the lead vanished in the blink of an eye. Corozal responded with four consecutive points: a back-row attack by Spencer Olivier, a spike by Jalen Penrose from zone two, an offensive error by Brandon Rattray, and a quick middle attempt by Iván Fernández that was stopped by the net. The Plataneros sealed the set 26-24.

In the second set, Yauco took control by applying pressure from the service line. With the score at 24–19, a Corozal service error opened the door for Kevin Rodríguez to close the set with a block on Oquendo attacking from zone four.

Corozal regained its rhythm in the third set. Two powerful attacks by Penrose from zone two brought them to set point at 24–21, and a back-row kill by Olivier—sneaking through despite Yauco’s triple block—ended the set 25–22, giving the Plataneros a two-sets-to-one advantage.

The fourth set was a defensive showcase by Corozal. The Plataneros built a wall with two consecutive blocks—one on Rattray and another on Juan Felipe Castañeda—to go up 19–17 and later closed the set with four straight blocks.

Points 22 and 23 came from Olivier, once again blocking Rattray and Jessie Colón. Penrose and Guillermo Moya added set point with a shared block on Diego Negrón, and on the following play Moya shut down Negrón with another block to seal the victory.

Corozal’s offense was led by an imposing Jalen Penrose, who finished with 35 points (30 attacks, 3 blocks, and 2 aces). Spencer Olivier followed with 15 points.

For Yauco, Brandon Rattray and Juan Felipe Castañeda contributed 15 points each, while Diego Negrón added 12.

The series continues Friday, January 2, 2026, at the Raúl “Pipote” Oliveras Coliseum, home of the Cafeteros de Yauco, starting at 8:00 p.m.

In Semifinal A, the Caribes de San Sebastián hold a 2–0 lead over the Patriotas de Lares. Game three will be played this Tuesday, December 30, at the Luis Aymat Cardona Coliseum, also at 8:00 p.m.
