Costa Rica Advances to Quarterfinals

with Comfortable Win over Honduras

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, August 6, 2026. – Costa Rica earned a comfortable 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-13) victory over Honduras to advance to the quarterfinals of the Boys’ U17 Pan American Cup at the Domo Polideportivo in Guatemala City.

Costa Rica controlled the match from the start, building comfortable leads in each of the three sets. With an effective attack and greater consistency throughout the match, the Costa Ricans remained in control to complete the straight-set victory.

Costa Rica now awaits the result of the final Pool A match between Guatemala and Venezuela to determine its final position and whether it will face the United States or Canada in the quarterfinals.

Costa Rica’s dominance was also reflected in the statistics, outscoring Honduras 44-23 in attacks and 7-3 in blocks. Both teams recorded one ace.

Kenneth Quirós was the only player in the match to reach double figures, leading Costa Rica with 12 points, including one block.

Costa Rica head coach Felipe Jenkins highlighted the change in attitude shown by his team.

“The team had a different attitude compared to the first day. We were very focused and determined to win. We tried to play a more technical game, with better attacks and by finding the best option to score.”

Honduras head coach Oziel Vázquez said his team continues to look for greater offensive effectiveness.

“The team is giving its best. We are having some difficulties with our outside hitters, who are not achieving what we expect from them, and we are giving away too many points in attack. That is why we have made some changes, and we hope they will produce results in the upcoming matches.”
