Costa Rica Returns to Victory After
Defeating El Salvador
Tegucigalpa, Honduras. June 26, 2024.- The Costa Rica
National Team returned to the victory path after defeating El Salvador
3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-22) in the second match of the fourth day of the
VI Central American U23 Women’s Championship at the Jorge Galeano
Gymnasium in Tegucigalpa.
Following yesterday's painful defeat against Belize,
Costa Rica is back on track and remains in contention for the top
position in the tournament. The Ticas now have a record of 2 wins and 1
loss. On the other hand, El Salvador suffers its fourth consecutive
defeat, remaining winless with a 0-4 record.

This Thursday, Costa Rica will face Nicaragua in the
first match of day five, a crucial game for the tricolor team if they
want to keep their title hopes alive. El Salvador will rest on that day.
Costa Rica outperformed El Salvador in attacks 34-18 and
was much more effective in serving with a 14-3 advantage. El Salvador
held their ground well at the net and was better in blocking with a 5-4
edge.
Ester Abarca of Costa Rica was the top scorer of the
match with 11 points, two of them from serves. Ana Victoria Rojas and
Bennet Blackwood supported the attack with 10 points each. For El
Salvador, their captain Daniela López was the top scorer with 8 points,
and Silvia Inés Juárez assisted with 7 points.
“Today, the team was very good. After yesterday's match,
it brought us closer together and motivated us to focus on each game and
keep winning the remaining matches to achieve our ultimate goal, which
is the title,” said Bennet Blackwood from Costa Rica after the match.
Meanwhile, Daniela López, the captain of El Salvador,
commented: “We congratulate Costa Rica on the victory. In the first
sets, we were a bit unfocused and weren't fulfilling our roles on the
court. It wasn't until the third set that we started scoring points. I
hope we can continue like this for the rest of the tournament.” |
