Costa Rica beats Honduras and is fifth in the Sub 18
Tegucigalpa, Honduras. September 1, 2018. Costa Rica won 3-0
(25-20, 25-17, 25-16) to Honduras to take fifth place in the
NORCECA U18 Women's Continental Championship.
Despite the opposition of the locals at the start of the set,
Costa Rica maintained the concentration and won with a varied
offensive with Nicole Mata scoring 9 points, Lakysha Thompson
and Ana Rojas were left with eight. Meanwhile, Rocío Durón
scored 10 for Honduras and Andrea Aceituno and Dazly Durán had
8.
Costa Rica dominated the attack (33-25), blocking (8-4) and
service (3-2), with 31 unforced errors from Honduras by 22 of
the Costa Ricans.
Pamela Padilla, captain of Costa Rica: "We are very happy to win
this game and stay with the fifth place. We are very satisfied
because we knew that we could achieve the result. We came with
the claw and with the desire to win, because last year in the
Central American Honduras exceeded us. "
"This tournament leaves us many experiences, playing against
teams of more level makes us grow as players."
Sandra Umaña, coach of Costa Rica: "I think we came to this,
already at this stage, with the level of Central America we had
to work hard, play a great rival like Honduras, at home, very
organized. Today the girls played concentrated, we played to not
make unforced errors and that helped us to win. "
Osiel Vasquez, Cuban coach of Honduras: "The tournament has been
very good for Honduras, for the Federation in the organizational
part and for the team it was a good tournament, until today,
which was one of the worst games we had. We won three games and
lost three, we worked for 50 percent, but I think that in this
game we could do more, we even thought in five sets, because it
could be for either of us. " |
