Costa Rica blanks Belize to remain undefeated
PANAMA CITY, Panama, August 27, 2014 – Costa Rica dispatched
Belize in straight sets 3-0 (25-15. 25-14, 25-19) to remain as
the only undefeated team in the U23 Men’s Central American
Championship at José “Beto” Remón Gymnasium on Wednesday.
Ricky Vargas and Alberto Blanco finished with 11 and 10 points,
respectively, as the top scorers for Costa Rica. Jaleel Lino had
10 for the losers.
Costa Rica improved to a 4-0 win-loss record with 18 points.
Belize dropped to a 2-3 mark.
Blanco, the captain of Costa Rica, said despite the victory and
their undefeated record they have two more tough matches against
El Salvador and Nicaragua that can change their situation in the
standings.
Belize’s coach Leon Leslie said the match got complicated
because of the inexperience against a superior opponent.
In their last match on Thursday, Belize plays Honduras, another
team on the back part of the standings. |
