MANAGUA, Nicaragua, December 12, 2015 – Costa Rica overcame some
difficult moments in the second set to defeat Nicaragua 3-0
(25-22, 26-24, 25-15) in the closing match of the sixth day at
the XVI U20 Women’s Central American Championship.
Allison Font topped the attack by Costa Rica with 12 points
followed by Edya Espinoza with 11 points. Ditzy Ortiz had 9
points for Nicaragua.
Costa Rica got 40 points from errors of their opponents while
committing 30. The Costa Ricans led in attacks 27-24 and held a
5-3 advantage in blocking. The teams tied in aces 4-4.
Mariana Rodriguez, captain of Costa Rica: “Tactically was a good
game but in the second set the pressure was unbelievable. We
were able to manage it and there is our confidence for
tomorrow’s match.”
Andrea Pereira, captain of Nicaragua: “our team has learned from
their mistakes and we have continued moving on trying to do a
good job. Today we had a good game despite the loss.” |
