Costa Rica crowned in AFECAVOL, Richard Smith selected MVP
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, December 11, 2014 - Costa Rica was
crowned AFECAVOL Champions and outside hitter Richard Smith was
selected the Most Valuable Player of the XVIII Men’s Central
American Cup at Jorge Galeano Gymnasium in Tegucigalpa.
Richard Smith’s spectacular performance and effectiveness
carried Costa Rica to claim the Gold Medal of tournament, while
granting him several individual awards besides the MVP. Smith
won the awards as Best Spiker, Best Scorer and Best Server.
From Guatemala, Tirso Pineda was awarded the Best Libero and
Best Receiver while teammates Andy Leonardo and Oscar Garcia
received the awards as Second Best Blocker and Second Best
Spiker respectively.
The plaque as Best Setter of the event was presented to Alvaro
Solis and the Best Defense to Christopher Navarrete, both from
Nicaragua.
Karym Coleman of Belize received the award for Best Opposite and
Wilfredo Lopez of Honduras was awarded the Best Blocker trophy.
