SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, August 19, 2015.-
Costa Rica fought hard to defeat Nicaragua 3-1 (23-25,
25-9,25-15,25-13) in the last match of day four of the Girls’
U-18 Central American Championship.
Nicaragua with good energy and effective defense performed
strongly.
They took set one 25-23 with efforts by their libero, pushing
Costa Rica to change strategy and make things more difficult for
Nicaragua the rest of the game.
Costa Rica led in spikes 41-18 and 8-3 in service points.
Nicaragua was better in blocking 7-3.
Tamara Espinoza led Costa Rica with 12 points and Susan Alpizar
registered 11. Dalia Conto scored 7 points and Belen Arcia 6 for
Nicaragua.
Leonela Carcache Nicaragua’s captain said “our good attitude was
the key in winning set one, unfortunately we couldn’t reach our
objective to win the match”.
“I believe we were too confident because of our previous results
and Nicaragua took us by surprise in the first set” said Tamara
Espinoza, captain of Costa Rica.
Claudia Noguera coach of Nicaragua indicated “the most important
thing today was the team’s attitude, since yesterday we’ve been
working on that and this is the team that should have played in
previous games, fighting hard and proving we can do better”.
Amdres Lopez, coach of Costa Rica said “I said before the
competition started that Nicaragua was one of the toughest teams
because of their energy and defense, they tested our limits. I
am satisfied with the result”.
On Thursday Costa Rica meets Guatemala, both teams are
undefeated. |
