Costa Rica finishes with 5-1 record
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, December 11, 2014 - Costa Rica finished
the XVIII Men’s Central American Cup with 5-1 record after
defeating Belize 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-15) at Jorge Galeano
Gymnasium.
Costa Rica had no difficulties in their last performance of the
tournament, and added five important points for a total of 24.
They will have to wait for the result between Honduras and
Guatemala to determine their final position.
Costa Rica showed superiority in kills by 44-28 and in serves by
3-0; they committed 14 unforced errors. Belize held advantage in
the blocking category by 7-5 and committed 23 unforced errors.
Richard Smith topped Costa Rica’s scorers with 21 points,
followed by Javier Alvarez with 11 points. Karym Coleman led
Belize with 15 points.
“We thought in one match at a time, unfortunately we suffered a
loss in the way; against Belize we knew the result had to be 3-0
and we played relaxed, performing fine and trying to commit the
less errors possible” indicated Costa Rica’s captain Richard
Smith.
Coach Cesar Salas of Costa Rica “our tas kwas to win in three
sets, the scores were low, this was also an objective of ours in
matter to improve our average. Now we must wait for the result
