Costa Rica four-time U23 champion
MANAGUA, Nicaragua, June 29, 2019 - Costa Rica was crowned
undefeated champion of the IV Central American U23 Women's
Volleyball Championship after winning 3-0 (25-20, 25-9, 25-15)
over Panama yo stay atop of the podium for the fourth
consecutive tournament.
The Costa Rican team dominated the tournament losing only two
sets, against El Salvador and Belize.
Tatiana Sayles was the best in the Costa Rican attack with 19
points followed by Tamara Espinoza. With 12. For Panama, Yileen
NG was left with 8 points. The champion team dominated in attack
43-21, 5-2 in blocking and 6-1 in service, with 21 errors of the
opponent against 20 granted.
Meanwhile, Belize won 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 25-22) to El Salvador
to secure the silver medal, first in this category.
Melanie Palacio, Mya Musa and Fatoumata Camara each scored 11
points for Belize. While El Salvador had Gabriela Funes her best
player with 15 points.
In a very even match, Belize dominated the attack 21-28, 9-5 the
blocking and 6-5 service, with 30 points for errors of the
opponent by 29 committed.
Nicaragua and Guatemala staged a great battle won by Nicaragua
3-1 (26-24, 25-23, 12-25, 25-17) and with this the bronze medal
was hung, because they needed to win to be on the podium.
Zuleyma Cortez, with 12 points collaborated with the triumph, as
well as María Fernanda Campos with 11 and Andrea Pereira with
10. María García was the best for Guatemala with 15 points and
13 by María Villagrán. |
