Costa Rica gets first victory at AFECAVOL U23
PANAMA CITY, Panama, July 26, 2016 – Costa Rica registered an
important victory over Belize in the second day of the U23 Men’s
Central American Volleyball Championship at José “Beto” Remón
Gymnasium of Panama City.
Costa Rica needed 1 hour and 48 minutes to win 3-1 (25-17,
16-25, 25-22, 25-17) over Belize. Both teams have a 1-1 win-loss
record.
The team of Costa Rica focused their attack on Walter Serrano
(13 points) and César Gómez (12 points) who both were effective
at the net reaching double digits. Bryton Codd was again the
main player for Belize with 17 points, including five service
winners.
Belize’s Raluni Bernández, who is the main support of Codd in
the offense, suffered a serious knee injury and had to be taken
to hospital.
Codd commented: “The injury of Raluni Bernández affected us as
he is one of our main attackers so we were limited in the third
and fourth sets. Today we were too passive, even though I tried
to motivate my teammates. We were not aggressive because the
floor was slippery. We have to think about the rest of the
tournament.” |
