Costa Rica on the right track at Central American Cup
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, October 9, 2014.- Defending champion
Costa Rica continues on the right track defeating El Salvador
3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-6) at the Women’s XVIII Central American
Cup.
Every player of Costa Rica had a moment on court as they
dominated the entire actions of their straight set victory that
keeps them undefeated. Costa Rica has a 3-0 win-loss record and
13 points; El Salvador remains win-less with 0-3 and one point.
Costa Rica served off El Salvador with a huge advantage in kills
of 40-15, 9-1 in the blocking category and 3-1 in aces.
Opposite player Mijal Hines was Costa Rica’s topped scorer with
13 points and team captain Angela Willis collected 10 points.
For El Salvador, captain Adriana Flores led with 9 points.
Angela Willis stated “we analyze each opponent and set a
different game plan for each; El Salvador has good defense so we
worked on trying to be more precise and lowering our margin of
errors. Today we had a better rhythm and the score allowed us to
use all our bench players”.
“We couldn’t resolve our own performance and score more. Our
defense was out of rhythm, we lost concentration, and the team
is developing because our players are very young” said Adriana
Flores of El Salvador.
Coach Horacio Bastit said there is a still a lot to improve “our
strength is over the net and we committed two unforced errors in
our offensive which shouldn’t be happening; I didn’t like our
performance in the second set. Despite obtaining results, our
objectives are not only based on them. In this tournament
there’s no good or bad opponent, there are different opponents
and El Salvador has very good serves which we controlled with
our reception which did very good today”.
Coach Alexander Polanco of El Salvador indicated “more than half
the team is very young and evolving, this means I don’t have
changes. Our defense and reception are performing well, we
covered well the blocking zone, which for me is improvement; but
we lack strength in our offensive making it harder for us to
score. Our serves helped us during short periods during the
match.
We are learning more with each performance”. |
