Costa Rica remains unbeaten by overtaking Honduras
MANAGUA, Nicaragua, June 26, 2019 - Costa Rica had no problems
to overcome Honduras 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-21) for its third
consecutive victory in the IV Central American U23 Women's
Volleyball Championship.
The Costa Ricans had a perfect first set, with an advantage of
up to 8 points before reaching the second technical time. In the
second set the Hondurans wanted to react, failing in key points
in the attack and in the third Costa Rica maintained the
serenity and control of the game thanks to the combination of
their attack.
Tatiana Sayles, captain of Costa Rica, scored 14 points, while
Tamara Espinoza and Mariana Rodríguez each added 9 points.
Honduras had the offensive duo of Cecille Johnson with 18 and
Nathaly Pérez with 14, but the rest of the team stayed away in
production.
Ignacio Araya, coach of Costa Rica: "I feel we come from less to
more, it is important to point out that the strongest matches
played in the middle of the week, El Salvador yesterday
presented us a good match, tactically raised and Honduras did
its thing; has couple of outstanding players and yet it gave us
results as we thought. We have to work on the issue of
consistency."
Caterine Leiva, coach of Honduras: "The anxiety ate us
throughout the game. I cannot say anything more than anxiety
could more than just play. We trained well this morning, we
considered what had to be done. We studied the opposition and
did not execute what was planned."
Honduras will face Guatemala on Thursday at 4:30 in the
afternoon on the fifth day, while Costa Rica plays against
Belize at 2:30 p.m. |
