MANAGUA, Nicaragua, October 20, 2021 - Costa
Rica maintains its unbeaten record in three
starts by beating Guatemala (25-14, 25-17,
28-26) 3-0 (1-2) in the XXI Major Central
American Cup of Women’s Volleyball.
The Costa Ricans continue without losing a set,
although they were in trouble in the third, when
Guatemala could not take advantage of two match
points, leaving their rivals who won 28-26
alive.
A multi-flank attack used Costa Rica in the
first set, with three players scoring 4 points,
Julissa Rodríguez, Tatiana Sayles and Tamara
Espinoza. For the second set the outside hitter,
Karen Cope took the lead and with powerful
attacks some changes of rhythm, getting 7
points, and Cope herself was in charge of
burying the aspirations of Guatemala in the
third set scoring 8 points.
Cope finished with 18 points, followed by
Espinoza with 9 and Sayles' 7, who did not play
in the third set. For Guatemala, Rut Gómez got
11 points and 10 from María García.
Costa Rica dominated the attack 39-32 and the
blocking (8-2), with Guatemala taking a slight
advantage in service 7-6, but they committed 25
errors, by 16 of the Costa Ricans.
Costa Rica will face Nicaragua this Thursday in
one of the most anticipated games by the fans
who arrive at the Alexis Arguello Sports Center
in Managua. The game will be at 7:00 p.m. while
Guatemala faces Belize at 1:00 p.m. |
