Costa Rica returns to the U-18 throne in Central America
QUESADA CITY, Costa Rica, November 23, 2019 - Costa Rica
regained the crown in the U-18 category by winning 3-1
(25-22, 21-25, 25-15, 25-19) over Guatemala in the last game
of the XIII Central American Women's Volleyball
Championship.
After the victory of Belize against El Salvador in the first
game of the closing day, Costa Rica needed a victory to
finish undefeated and be crowned champion for the eighth
time in history.
And the home team did it by the hand of the opposite
Angelica Rodriguez, who was unstoppable in the attack with
25 points, although she had the support of Nicole Mata with
21. Ingrid Almaraz was the best for Guatemala with 14
points.
Belize secured the silver medal (4-1), the first of any
color in the history of this tournament, winning 3-0 (25-12,
25-22, 25-22) against El Salvador. Gareth Bruce finished
with 13 points and Olivia McKenzie contributed 11. Geannine
Velásquez got 8 for El Salvador.
Honduras won 3-0 (25-18, 27-25, 25-13) over Nicaragua, to
keep the bronze medal by finishing with a win-loss record of
3-2. Dazly Durán was unstoppable in the attack with 17
points and her teammate Genesis Oyuela had 16, while Shantte
Siliezar contributed 10, five of them in services. For
Nicaragua, Roselyn Tobie was left with 14 points.
